Terracotta Bust - Caligula
- Description:
A terracotta bust of the third Roman Emperor, Caligula.
Caligula is believed to have been a popular ruler at first, abolishing several taxes, holding many gladiatorial events and restoring democratic elections. After two years, however, he became increasingly tyrannical and reportedly insane, appearing dressed as a god or demigod in public.
After threatening the Senate for too long, he was assassinated in 41AD. A noble leader sadly corrupted by illness and extravagance.
